It is also worth bearing in mind that there are two distinct safari 'circuits' in Tanzania. The Northern Circuit is the Seregengeti and Tarangiri and the Ngorongoro Crater. The best time to visit the northern part of Tanzania is between November and April. The Southern Circuit consists of Ruaha and Selous, and the best time is June-March, as the southern area is effectively closed during the rainy season. Often, they try to grab you right in fromt of where the taxis are actually queuing. also, don't forget to ask to have the meter switched on once you get in a taxi as well, otherwise they will charge you whatever they want at the other end.
